Today we got up late and headed off to Siena for the day. We drove around the outskirts for a wee while trying to find a park as it was very busy.
We walked straight through the old town to the main piazza, il Campo, which is a shell shaped piazza in the very heart of Siena.
They say it is the most perfect square in Italy. We stopped there for a
lunch - I'm really liking buffalo mozeralla, tomato and basil salads. Mum and dad had antipasta and proscuitto and melon. We are really enjoying the food here.
After lunch we walked up to the duomo (cathedral). It was stunning.
Inside it was stripey. The black and white stripes were really pretty inside the church and on the tower outside. Mum took lots of photos of the inside.
We climbed up an arch near the duomo that had panoramic views over Siena. It was a long tiring climb to get to the top. We also had to wait for ages in line as there was only one way up and down.
Our entry ticket also allowed us into a museum and the churches baptistry. Mum and dad took more photos.
After that we had a gelato and again sat in the piazza to have some afternoon tea. I ran around the piazza until I was hot and tired.
We got home late so I had banana and peanut butter on toast for dinner. Yum.
